I stumbled across this quote by Mother Teresa last year and instantly knew I wanted it in my home. After casually trying to find it on-sale in home decor stores, and never seeing it, I figured I could just make one.
Now to get started . . .
Step 1: Buy Clearance Sign
I started by going to Hobby Lobby and looking at all their signs that were 50% off. I really didn’t care what the sign looked like or said, I was just looking for a certain size and frame color. I found this beauty for only $8.
Step 2: Tape Frame & Paint
Now all you have to do it tape off the frame with painters tape. I used my left over white paint from my fireplace remodel and started by only painting one coat on the entire surface of the sign.
After letting that coat dry, I noticed the lettering what slightly indented on the original sign and was showing through my paint.
Step 3: Fixing Imperfections
If the lettering is showing through on your sign, here is how to fix it. I grabbed my putty and did a thin layer over all the lettering. I let that dry fully and then took my sandpaper and sanded it smooth.
Once the putty has been smoothed and the surface cleaned of all dust, I painted a second coat of the white paint.
Step 4: Add Vinyl
Now to finish up this fast and easy DIY sign. . .
Now just apply the vinyl (here is my vinyl application method) and you are finished! Enjoy!
